OCR Nationals Unit 23

Unit 23 is a short unit on video editing. It is ESSENTIAL to complete a short unit to obtain 1 or 2 GCSE's. Use the template to complete your evidence documentation.

Unit 23 has 4 Assessment Objectives - links to each are below

AO1 - Reviews You need to review 2 video's of different types (such as an advert and a movie trailer). You should identify the good and bad points of the videos and at least one possible improvement for each video. You should also list ideas from each video to use/avoid in your own video. (2 lessons)
AO2 - Design You should show you understand the process of designing a video. You need to write a simple plan giving the purpose and audience for the video you will make. You also need to complete a storyboard showing the main scenes of the video and giving details of text, graphics, video, sound, timing, transitions & effects (2 lessons)
AO3 - Create You should create the video which you have planned. Your video should be at least 30 seconds long and contain both still & video images, text, transitions, effects and sounds. You need to complete the evidence as outlined in the template and also save your final video in a format suitable for viewing on any computer.
AO4 - Evaluate You will evaluate your video clip with reference to its purpose. You will consider how well you followed your plan. Your evaluation will encompass the effectiveness of individual components of your video as well as the product as a whole. You will identify at least one area for improvement.

Your video must be: Pass
  • At least 30 seconds long
  • Contain at least 1 sound
  • Use a range of components
    • Video
    • Images
    • Animations
    • Contain clips you have split or trimmed
    • Contain transitions/effects
Merit/Distinction
  • Include text/titles
  • Contain more than 1 sound clip
Distinction
  • Include some narration
  • Sound must be synched appropriately
Your video really doesn’t need to be longer than a minute. The simplest type of video to produce would be an advert, you could advertise a club or a product or even advertise the school!

Technical Terms

Transition – the join between two clips, may be faded in/out or use a present transition like in PowerPoint – be careful not to use too many! Effect – A change to the original – adding a colour wash, turning something black and white, changing the speed, blurring or sharpening Split – Taking a piece of video footage and cutting it into more than one part Trim – Cutting out part of a piece of video footage
